Digibro’s Media Journal Year One Finale

[Bandcamp’s new embed thing isn’t working with me, so go here: http://digibronevershutsup.bandcamp.com/album/digibros-media-journal-year-one-finale]

This is it! The end of the first year of Digibro’s Media Journal, and the effective end of the current format of the series. Above is a brief podcast with my thoughts on the yearlong project, and below is the final ordered list of all media that I took in this year.

The June stuff is in bold. Note that a great number of the ratings have been changed since the items were originally listed.

Digibro’s Media Journal (May 2013)

I’ve either hit an all-time low of media consumption, or I seriously need to change my definition of what counts as media. I spent a stupidly huge amount of this month watching MLP videos, which is why I really need to make that it’s own thing as I’ve been promising—it’s just hard to keep track of all of it. In the meantime, I didn’t touch any anime, game controllers, or comics/books this month, so I’m pretty dead to the world. It’s mostly gonna be music, which I’m absurdly current on thanks to Anthony Fantano. At least it’s a month of almost completely positive reactions!

Digibro’s Media Journal (April 2013)

Did this month even happen? Where am I? Holy fuck. For real, I have no idea what happened to me this month. I guess I’d have to use my posts and videos to figure it out. At least most of what I remember was media-related, so this month should be a bit more exciting than the last two were.

Honestly, this journal is incomplete because I mostly listened to a shitload of music thanks to The Needle Drop, but most of it I haven’t had enough time with to really talk about. These Media Journals get more complicated to do every month I swear.

Digibro’s Media Journal (March 2013)

Yet another month has gone in which media consumption was slowed by MLP and video making, though at least now it’s pretty close to resembling a full-time job, so it’s mostly a good thing. I spent the first two weeks of March deeply entrenched in making my Q&A videos, and then kinda retaliated by spending much of the last two weeks playing video games. (In my defense, some fairly successful livestreams came out of it.)

I feel like I should also link to the tons of youtube channels I learned of and subbed to this month, but I’m too lazy. I do have intentions of doing some kind of youtube mega-posts in the future, though. Also, I think I’m going to separate MLP fanworks into their own thing.

Digibro’s Media Journal (February 2013)

God damn, what an uneventful month for media. You’d think that leaving my job would mean much more time for stuff, but nooo, ponieponieponieponieponie. (I ended up throwing some pony on the list too, so it would at least be indicative of what actually happened this month.)

Just how serious was this pony takeover? It’s not just a matter of making so many videos—it’s also a matter of constantly reading comments, talking to people on skype and AIM about the show, looking at fanworks, and getting swamped in news and recommendations. I keep thinking I should also do something else, but it’s hard to even bring myself to, because I’m so wrapped up in the excitement of my videos rapidly increasing in popularity. Suffice it to say, I’m not complaining, I’m just overwhelmed. And it doesn’t help that the three-plus score is in seriously short supply this month.

Digibro’s Media Journal (January 2013)

(Warning: most of this was written while drunk.) January got off to an unparalleled start in terms of media—I was handing three-plus scores out the wazoo. This more or less came to an abrupt stop when I started dedicating every waking hour to pony videos (not necessarily on purpose, it just sorta overtook my brain). I keep feeling like I’ve left something off the list, because it felt like I took in more media at the end of the month than I have listed, but it’s likely that I was just so busy with ponies and working on my upcoming Top 100 songs list and watching Game Grumps and shit that I just didn’t see that much new stuff.

Albums of 2012

2012 looks to have been shit year for albums. Most of what I listened to from 2012 was My Little Pony fan music, which isn’t usually released in album form. I’m a big fan of the album as a concept, so it’s weird for me to look back on a year and see that little of what I ended up liking was in full album form. Still, I kept up a list of 2012 albums for most of the year, and I’ve done a lot of yearly music round-ups in random places over the years (never on this site before), so I wanna do one.

This will be broken up into stuff I listened to a lot, and stuff I didn’t listen to much—then further broken down by how good it was.

Digibro’s Media Journal (December 2012)

This month’s media consumption was definitively characterized by my schedule. For the first two and a half weeks of December, my friends and I were constantly recording videos for our Gamecube Chats series; and as a result, a huge amount of the media I consumed this month was Gamecube games. A lot of them I didn’t get to play in-depth, so they’ll be falling in at the bottom section of this post.

Besides Gamecube games, there will also be an assload of Disney movies, because of Brandon and I running our Disneycast series. There are a decent number of comic books too, thanks to our continued cultural exchange, though not nearly as much as there would’ve been if not for Gamecube Chats. All of this leaves the post feeling like a big advertisement for the rest of my shit.

Digibro’s Media Journal (November 2012)

This was my busiest month ever, with a slam-packed November holiday schedule leaving me at work or asleep way more than I’d have liked. I also did a lot of rewatching and stuff, so in this post I’ll be including media which I’ve already seen, or am continuing to watch, which I didn’t cover before. (For instance: MLP is back, but wasn’t on when I started the journal, so I’ll be talking about it here; but I won’t talk about the still-running Game Grumps, because I talked about it in September.)
