Text version:
I can’t seem to find the chapter in which it happened, but there is a certain scene in Genshiken wherein Ogiue Chika explains to one of her friends (I can’t remember whom) that she is embarrassed about showing her manga to the world, because she is literally putting her fantasies onto the page. When someone reads her hardcore yaoi manga, they are reading exactly what she gets off on, and there is an obvious sense that if someone sees this and finds it disgusting, it only takes a little line-drawing to consider the artist equally disgusting.
One of the greatest sins of my blogging career has been that I’ve never properly posted about Hidamari Sketch (and similarly, one of the greatest sins of my anime-watching career has been that I never watched any of it past the first season/read more than 1 volume of the manga) – Both of those in spite of considering it one of my alltime favorite anime, it having formally introduced me to favorite director Akiyuki Shinbo, and it being a large part of re-introducing me to anime. Well, you know what they say, the early bird catches the worm – I kept my mouth closed so long that someone else spoke out before me, and now I’m actually glad that I never said anything, because 8c knocked it out of the fucking park!
The twelfth post in “100 Characters For 100 Otaku”
Are you enjoying the time of “100 Characters For 100 Otaku?” We’ve come a long way, but there’s still a lot more to go! As we wind down, I reflect on shows that have had a character in the beginning, those who have had consistent characters in the list, and those that have yet to arrive. If you’re wondering where someone is, don’t worry – they may be on the way! Now, let’s see what 45 down through 41 have to offer!
The fifth post in “100 Characters For 100 Otaku.”
It’s time for more “100 Characters For 100 Otaku!” You know the drill – I talk about my top 100 characters and why I like them, how they are a mirror for the nature of otaku, how they reflect my otakudom, and how they parallel the first episode of Crest of the Stars. It’s a long, strange, and epic trip, and I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am! Today we have numbers 80 down through 76, so let’s see what they’re made of!
Ghostlightning did a post yesterday on shows that he finds difficult to write about in spite of the fact that he is a huge fan of them. I have shows like this myself as well as shows I just… never really brought up, even though I enjoyed them so much. Looking back, I didn’t used to really talk about shows much after the initial ‘I finished it’ post, and it was really only near the end of last year that I started not only to post about my impressions upon completion, but to really offer up discussion and thoughts on the show. That said, there are still shows I just never managed to mention.
Because Oi, Hayaku has gone defunct, I will be reposting all my OH! posts here. Enjoy if you haven’t already.
How does one come to adore moe? Where does it begin? And where does it go from there?
The issue has been debated long and hard on the internet. Welcome to the NHK has it’s own theory:
But is this really true? I wanted to study one man’s obsession with moe – and what better test subject than myself?

The OH! team is doing a series in which each member discusses which anime character they are most similar to.
Although I definitely look more like fellow Genshiken member Tanaka my personality is certainly more like Madarame. If you’ve seen Genshiken, you are probably thinking ‘well, that’s only blatantly obvious.’ Madarame is the most hardcore otaku amongst the Genshiken. He will watch just about anything (his favorites list has G Gundam, Ojamojo Doremi, and Spirited Away… yeah) and is very passionate about his anime.
