Otakon 2009 – Convention of the VOCAL Generation

I’m gunna try to go through my time at Otakon as fast as possible. There are a number of things that deserve their own posts, some of which I’m sure someone else will do better (such as someone who’s camera didn’t run out of memory during Yamakan’s QnA.) This was an extremely fun and extremely fast otakon that, while not legendary like last year’s, was still a much-needed thing in my life and unforgettable. Pics will come in a second post, later.

Hatsune Miku Save the Space!

It’s been a while, but it’s time for another Digital Boy fanfic! Everyone should know who Hatsune Miku is, but here’s a link to the Vocaloid wiki for those who don’t. All of the vocaloids appear in this story briefly, but you don’t really need to know anything about any of them to understand this story. As a matter of fact, if this is your first encounter with Miku, you should be fine anyway, seeing as how she’s not so much a character as an instrument anyway, lol. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this story.

We Remembered Love – DigitalBoy and Ghostlightning Videocast

So, Ghostlightning and I did our first videocast on Fuzakenna TV! And it was a ton of fun, especially with the live chat going on through it. Even though whether we stayed on topic at all is debatable! It was supposed to be a war, but then it just became us fanboying, showing our tits, and I got to somewhat meet his wife. It’s worth it just to hear GL’s funny accent and my awesome fanservice. Summary: Anime is the best fanboying, Bemboo Leaf Rhapsody was great, and I’ll be making 20 Eureka Seven posts!

TO WATCH THE SHOW: Go to Fuzakenna TV, click the ON-DEMAND button, and click on WE REMEMBERED LOVE – GHOSTLIGHTNING AND DIGITALBOY

Schedule

– Opening Theme: Love is War, Hatsune Miku
– Digitalboy fanservice
– The battle begins
– We completely get off on a tangent about making anime
– Ghostlightning brings in his wife
– We end things because they are getting old, GL wraps it up
– We end up talking about Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody somehow
– Ending Theme: Konata Healing Springs

Anime Generalism – True Otakudom?

Post BGM – Love is War – Hatsune Miku

There was once a time in my life where I could confidently say that I liked anime because it had action, bloodshed, and badass characters. There was a time where I could confidently say that I liked anime because it had better plots or directing than other mediums. There was a time where I could confidently say that I liked anime because it represented some specific thing that I enjoyed. However, at this time, if you asked me what I looked for in anime – what specific thing was my reason for consuming Japanese cartoons, I’d probably be at a total loss. The best explanation I have is: I’m an otaku.

Coolest Things I Watched on Nico Nico Douga Today (Lucky Star and a Whole Lot of Miku)

I spent my whole day watching/listening to NicoNicoDouga videos. I’ve listened to the NicoNicoRyuuseigun like 8 times (it’s 14 minutes long) and I’m trying to learn the lyrics so I can perform it at my next con. In the meantime, none of these are necessarily new, but these are the most awesome things I watched on Nico Nico Douga today. If you have no idea what NicoNico is or how to use it, see my other recent posts on it.

1. Hatsune Miku Cosplayer Performing Nico Nico Ryuuseigun – In the event that I were to marry a woman, this would be exactly what she would be like. As in, she’d be a short girl who cosplays Hatsune Miku and can sing and dance the entire Nico Nico Ryuuseigun. Anyway, this is the best thing ever, and what inspired me to learn all of the lyrics to Ryuuseigun.

2. Girl Playing Base For Miku Song – Speaking of girls who are my type, I like girls and I like the bass guitar, so I always love seeing them put together. Longtime readers (lol) may remember me having sever girl-holding-bass site banners back when I was Euphoric field… and when Euphoric Field had banners. Anyway, here’s some girl and bass, courtesy of OmegaDogma.

3. Chibi Miko Fun Videos – Chibi Miku is back! GOD IT’S SO MOE I MIGHT EXPLODE!!!

4. Vocaloid Band Performance – This is an awesome band performance video and a pretty good song to go with it. Gotta love otaku who love music.

5. Really Awesome Hatsune Miku Performance – This is one of the best Hatsune Miku songs I’ve heard yet. I love the airy vocals and the pretty piano over a fat bass riff.

6. Lucky Star Short Edited Funnies – wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

MikuMikuDance Love&Joy – Miku's Imouto?! – Most Moe Thing I've Seen All Month

I have pretty much come to realize that Nico Nico Douga is the greatest site ever. After all, manga artist Kentaro Miura has put his 20-years-running halfway-done epic Berserk on hold many times so that he could spend more time on Nico Nico Douga and play Idolmaster games. I suggest you get an account, or find someone who knows Japanese to make you one. It will also greatly help to know at least katakana and hiragana (as I do.) Or, with your account, just hang around the weekly top videos and enjoy. Please get an account. You won’t regret it.

Today, I want to share the most moe thing I’ve seen all month. For those not aware, I am a huge raving lunatic fan of Hatsune Miku, and I love watching her fanmade cg videos. This one is an extremely well-choreographed dance and song called Love&Joy. There are a number of videos with this dance, but this one has a twist – a mini Miku!!! It looks like Miku has a little sister and she’s so damn cute it makes my brain hurt. The end of the video has a little chu~ moment that was so cute I actually blushed. Love it!!!

I proveded a youtube imbed above since I know most people don’t have Nico accounts, but if you do, it’s always the better experience there.

Hatsune Miku "The Gods of Olympus Have Abandoned Me" – Moar Hironox

49c27a95gmhb5dly

Hironox, whom I did a cumulative post on before, seems to have hit a major patch of inspiration or something as he releases yet another great speedpaint onto drawr. While I say speedpaint, I don’t think hironox did this fast at all, seeing his production video, but I must say it is extremely worth watching. For this image, Hironox comes into it with the idea already of Hatsune Miku in this pose standing on the edge of a building. What really amazes me is how chaotic this image begins. He draws huge blobs of one color in various places and then draws lines over them, covering the excess with the next coat. For a few minutes, the image is totally unidentifiable until it gradually shapes into what you see above. Hironox seems to confirm my suspicion that he is a total perfectionist and he completely redesigns Miku’s face something like 30 times in the process of creating this picture.

(It’s worht noting that when I first saw this picture, the first line from ‘God of War’ immediately entered my mind, as seen in the title)

Hironox also posted a comment on someone else’s badass Spawn image and for those who don’t know, a drawr comment involves yourself drawing a badass picture. All of the images in this post are fucking great, and Hironox’s notably stands out because while everyone else is using the usual Spawn style of harsh lines and detail, his is more simplistic and bright and most notably isn’t a picture of Spawn himself. The reply the next guy gives him is also pretty fucking badass looking.

Black Rock Shooter Speedpaint by Hironox – Why Drawr is Amazing

49c18dedtfwmk4dc

When I did my artist highlight post on Hironox, I found his Drawr account and linked to it. At that time, I also subscribed to his drawr’s RSS feed. It’s been a while, but today he posted this speedpaint of Black Rock Shooter. That’s when I discovered something that makes drawr awesome – by clicking on the image in it’s individual page you can watch the whole speedpaint! It’s pretty interesting and amazing to watch just how much goes into creating this picture. Most interesting is how hironox mixes opacities to create his own colors and uses layer after layer to get the right effect. The picture totally changes several times during it’s creation until it becomes what’s seen above. I had fun watching it, but I warn that even though it’s in fast forward you’ll be strapped into this thing for more than 20 minutes, so I suggest you be ready.

EDIT: Actually, if you scroll over the image, you can skip to different parts in the process and up the speed! FUCKING COOL!
