Even More Awesome EDs, ~2011 Edition

More EDs! These ones missed the first list for one or more of these reasons: I forgot about them; I didn’t want to include two from the same show; I counted it as not awesome enough because I was being a lazy dick; I haven’t actually seen the anime it comes from but know the ED by reputation.

TO MAKE THIS LIST, if I can actually think of how the song or video goes, it’s got a good bet.

I Like GONZO (Just A Bit Less Than Old American Anime Magazines and ADV)

I love talking about studios, whether I’m giving some lessrespected ones the credit they deserve or driving the ones I hate as far into the ground as possible. It’s hard to call Gonzo a less-respected studio because in reality they’ve been one of the best-loved studios in anime for over a decade, but I’ll be giving them some love anyway.

A Channel – A Big Splash For Studio Gokumi! (OR, What Happens When the Staff of Saki Watches K-On)

A Channel had a superb first episode with a lot of potential to be my favorite show of the season. Amazingly, it plays the field of Kyoto Animation shows and comes out ahead of the season’s Kyoani series, Nichijou (albeit Nichijou is hardly one of Kyoani’s major productions).

A Channel is the second of the only two things Studio Gokumi has made, the first being last year’s Koe de Oshigoto—one of the funniest OVAs I’ve ever seen—and so far their catalog is all high quality. A lot of what I saw in A Channel episode one was the studio announcing “here’s who we are, here’s what we can do,” and they did so with a lot of confidence.

Finish or Fail 6 – Saki – The Meaning of Moe

‘Moe’. Moe, Moe, Moe. One of the most debated, debased, derogatory, yet delightful and potentially deadly terms of anime fandom. There are those who can’t wrap their heads around moe, or grasp it, or understand it, who think it’s a trend or a style or a visual phenomenon. There are those who try to pidegonhole moe, who try and categorize it as a genre, and who try to bash it or warp it. Now, I’ve done a lot of study on moe in the past. Moe helped me grasp my fandom when I almost lost it, I trained myself to learn more about it, and I published a definitive guide to breaking into it as a culture. However, if there is one thing I haven’t yet done, it’s to define moe. Saki has given me the confidence to do just that.

Natsu no Arashi 2, Saki 2, 07-Ghost 1, Shangri-La 1, DBKai 2, Basquash 2 – Quick Comments

Rapid-fire comments on a few shows. I will also mention that there are some shows I’m watching but am holding off on posting about for now. Tears to Tiara, FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Marie and Gali, Eden of the East, Kigurumikku, and Guin Saga will get posts later when I get a better feel for them or get my thoughts together. For now, here’s some quick thoughts on some of the current season shows…

Saki Episode 1 – Yuri, Otaku Mahjong, Fanservice, Great Animation, Shittacular, I Mean, Dude, What in the F*ck is This?!

THIS POST IS ALL LIES. TO SEE MY REAL OPINIONS OF SAKI, REDIRECT TO THIS POST.

Thanks to Crunchyroll‘s simulcasting, Saki is available to watch streamed and subbed instantly and legally for free. This is especially since Saki is a show you couldn’t enjoy without knowing what was going on. Unfortunately, it may not be a sow you could enjoy at all. Or is it?! I can’t tell!!! This was one very confounding first episode. It was like a constant barrage of things that were totally great and things that all completely sucked all flying around and colliding. It’s an episode that should mean an instant drop, but I can’t justify not at least watching the second episode in light of the numerous good points to the show.

I Hate Season Previews, But Here's Mine

I hate writing season previews because I get all excited about a lot of shows that I probably won’t watch until they are over anyway. However, much more than that, I HATE reading season previews. Why? Because people are fucking idiots about them. Almost every time I see a preview, it’s 90% pessimistic, blasting a show based on the character design and tiny shitty description they get of the show.  Some at last have the fucking decency to bring up studios, but even still they don’t bother to do extra research about the show. People, if you think a show looks stupid, why do I give a fuck? Who the fuck wants to read some bitch-ass making himself look cool by blasting a show that hasn’t even aired that he’ll probably end up loving and fanboying over.

Season previews make people look stupid as shit and can create negative vibes towards a show that doens’t need them. Fucking fall 07, some dumb little fucks accused Bamboo Blade of looking like some harem anime, and when that impression got let loose, tons of people avoided the show thinking it’d be some harem show. So all those people missed out on one of the best little gems of the 07-08 cross-season thanks to some fucking stupid rumors from people who hadn’t watch the fucking show. FUCK your uneducated season previews, if you won’t bother to FUCKING research the FUCKING show then SHUT THE FUCK UP. Anyway, here’s mine.
