For a while now, I have thought that I don’t get enough into the bones of my appreciation for the various elements of anime. In my reviews, I try to cover every single facet of a show, but even as my word count rises, it’s not like I’m saying THAT much about the elements. Sure, I’ve told you that X and X gave excellent performances, but I haven’t told you what made those performances so great or what moments sold me on them, etc. So I’m going to try breaking things down a little more, starting with a 2-episode OVA I watched today called Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel. (I highly recommend it!) This OVA had a lot of great elements, from directing to music to animation and voice acting, so I’ll be posting about each element separately.

Seiyuu Performance Highlight: Norio Wakamoto as Mechazawa Shinichi and Ramen Shop Owner + Mika Kanai as Mechazawa Beta – Cromartie High School

Cromartie High School is a lot like a SHAFT production in that all of the money went to hiring a cast of immense talent leaving none for the animation, which is handled nicely by unique budget-cutting techniques. There are a number of vocal roles probably worth note, but none stands out like The Great Norio Wakamoto’s role as Mechazawa Shinichi.

My Favorite Seiyuu and Voice Roles

Much like my recently added OP/ED sequence highlights, I’ve been interested in doing a highlight series on Seiyuu and voice rolls. I’ve only started getting into seiyuu in the past few months outside of a few favorites, and so I set out eventually to think of every voice roll that’s left an impact on me, identify the actor, and see what else they’ve done. So to kick off my highlights, here’s a list of all my favorite seiyuu and my favorite roles by them. If you know of any great performances, by these seiyuu or any other, that you think should be brought to my attention, please give me a heads-up in the comments. Note that roles I’m unaware of will exist even in shows I’ve seen, since I only started really listening to voices about a year ago.
